Would you like to write for The State of Women?

The State of Women Institute, together with SHEQONOMI, documents and highlights stories of women and girls who inspire every generation, in all areas and around the world. By amplifying the voices of women and anyone assigned female at birth; covering issues that most affect anyone identifying as a woman; promoting causes that help women and girls around the world; and spotlighting women leaders doing great things in podcasting, technology, finance, and positions of power; we elevate the discourse around gender, equity, and inclusion. By including diverse voices, we help shape the conversation. The State of Women strives to continue learning and sharing as we all work toward true equity.

We would love to include your voice!

Who can write for The State of Women and SHEQONOMI?

We welcome ALL. We are first and foremost an organization focused on women and we prioritize women’s voices—however, writers of any gender who would like to support our cause and contribute content are welcome to inquire or to submit writing for consideration.

We especially welcome diverse perspectives from women of color; women from locations around the world; LGBTQ women; and women in podcasting, technology, finance, or gender advocacy or activism.

Selection and publication of content is ultimately the decision of our editor in chief. Always feel free to ask! Email Kimberly Hosey at kimberly@womeninvesting.in

What/how should I write? How long should my article or post be?

We typically run original articles a little over 500 words like this profile or this article on mindfulness, but we can go longer (around 1,000 to 1,500 words) if the subject warrants it.

Our articles are written in the third-person; however, if you have experience, expertise, or a perspective that is outstanding or unusual in some way and feel a first-person account would be valuable, please feel free to reach out to discuss with our editor.

Please note your interview sources and research in case we need to reach out during the fact-checking/editing process.

The tone for The State of Women and SHEQONOMI is professional but also friendly and accessible. We typically use regular news writing style (Associated Press Style with modifications) for grammar, usage, punctuation, spelling, and other style elements; but we will always prioritize accessibility and clarity of communication.

When is the deadline for my article?

There is no set deadline for submitting articles or posts, but our editor may discuss our schedule with you and request a submission date that works for everyone. You will be notified when your article will be published, both ahead of time and when it is live on our websites and social media channels so you can help us promote it!

Can I submit something that has been published elsewhere?

We welcome some content that has been published elsewhere, such as on Medium or your personal website, on a case-by-case basis. If the content is relevant and we have permission to publish it in full on our website with possible edits to fit our style, we will gladly consider previously published content.

I’d love to submit, but I’m having a hard time thinking of ideas. Can you suggest a topic?

Think of what you might be an expert about—or experts you know who would love to have their passion and work highlighted in your article. Also, work to elevate girls and women, timely issues, self-care guides, fresh takes on current events, and more are welcome. Always include your source(s) in your article.

What do you pay for articles?

At this time, we do not have the ability to pay for any articles. We hope this changes in the future.
